Gold Melody Boy was an American Shetland, like Rowdy to whom he had a interesting genetic relationship. Melody Boy only produced 8 AMHA registered stallions. His 4 most important sons are: Roan Ranger, Wittmaacks Mickey Mouse, Johnstons Gold Bar and Johnstons Gold Boy. They have proven themselves as outstanding sires producing a vast number of get and grand-get who won National Show titles, including grand championships.
Gold Melody Boy daughters and grand-daughters have been priceless treasures in breeding programs all over the US. Melody Boys masterpiece was Johnston's Vanilla, subsequently owned by Lowell Boone and Little King Farm. She has secured her place in history by producing Boone's Little Buckeroo.
Gold Melody Boy was owned by the Daltons, the Johnstons, and the Wagners of Flying W Farms, where he died at the age of 21 in 1983. Examine the pedigrees of the Gold Melody Boy-horses bred by the Johnstons and Wittmaacks and you will find that they used inbreeding and line breeding extensively. The Melody Boy-horses have a tremendous refined mini-Arabian-type, elegance and balance. This bloodline has passed these qualities on for generations and will continue to do so, because many of the farms that have miniatures from this line are practicing the same principles of breeding today.
In spite of its narrow foundation, only based on 34 direct descendants, the Gold Melody Boy horses will be one of the leading bloodlines for many years to come. |

| Gold Melody Boy has only 34 foals registered with AMHA of which a remarkable low ratio of stallions: only 23.5% and therefore a remarkable high ratio of mares as well: 76.5%. With the relatively low total number of foals it is fair to say that these statistics do not represent the natural distribution of roughly the 50/50 ratio between the genders. None of the horses went into the records as geldings. Melody Boy, measuring 33" (86.4 cm) produced adult AMHA-registered offspring averaging 31.9" (81.0 cm). 2 of his children appeared to be oversized. His smallest foal measured 28.5" (72.4 cm) upon reaching permanent certification. Melody Boy produced 10 different colors of the AMHA 80-color range. Being a palomino, he produced 94.1 solid colors of which a remarkable high ratio of solid whites: 5 horses, representing 14.7%. No pintos have been registered. |
